OARS Outcome 3 : Observation Strategies
Observation strategies are co-designed and implemented in collaboration with data/information producers and end-users. Factors limiting collection of data are identified and solutions are implemented. Observation strategies are proactively designed and implemented to ensure vulnerable areas are adequately monitored. Ocean acidification baseline information is available for newly developed carbon removal strategies.
The Working Group for OARS Outcome 3 aims to contribute to the co-design and implementation of ocean acidification observation strategies to develop strong baseline information across the globe, supported by capacity-building and strong foundational knowledge within all interested stakeholder groups.
OARS3 Co-Champion Véronique Garçon says, “What is exciting about this outcome is the co-design aspect. We are used to setting up scientific questions, formulating and testing hypotheses, and carrying out the work. In the UN Decade, we need to be transformative, meaning that we have to think a bit differently. We need to envision the whole value chain; this means identifying stakeholders, investors, end-users, and co-building with them the questions, identifying what are the potential factors limiting the collection of data or implementation of solutions, and ultimately deliver the relevant data and solutions. And this is a major challenge.”
