OARS Outcome 7 : Policy Engagement
Strategies and solutions exist that enable countries and regions to include ocean acidification evidence in their respective policy and legislation.
The Working Group for OARS Outcome 7 aims to increase OA policies that effectively integrate with enhanced climate-ocean mitigation and adaptation strategies, are suited to the unique political and legal landscapes of each region and country, and are driven by social science, coastal community needs and priorities, and supported with robust regional finance.
OARS7 Co-Champion Jessie Turner says, “People tend to assume reducing carbon is the only thing we can do to address OA. It’s true that reducing carbon emissions is the number one action we can take to curb the rate of ocean acidification. However, there are actions that governments and institutions can and should be taking now to gain a better understanding of local and regional change—which will help guide the most impactful local adaptation and resilience building strategies”.
